Bodynamic Yoga: What Makes It Different?
The Bodynamic system is based on the relationship between the body’s muscular structures and psychological developmental processes.
This approach presents yoga not merely as a physical practice, but as a holistic process that strengthens self-perception, supports healthy boundary formation, and enhances emotional resilience.
In Bodynamic Yoga, asana sequences and movements are specifically designed to support particular ego functions. Participants learn not only how to teach yoga, but also how to create psychological resources through embodied schemas.
BODYNAMIC YOGA: Where the Body Meets Psychology
Yoga and Bodynamic are two powerful systems that share many common principles. Both are grounded in the mind–body connection and recognize that working with the body supports emotional and psychological development.
Bodynamic Yoga deepens one’s capacity to stay present, settle into the body, and become aware of breath and emotions. Through this process, individuals develop self-regulation, inner strength, and embodied awareness.
This approach focuses not only on physical flexibility and posture, but also on cultivating inner resources such as self-confidence, clarity, boundary-setting skills, and the ability to cope with stress. The movements are chosen to support both physical and emotional well-being.
Trauma-Informed, Compassionate, and Empowering Practice
Bodynamic Yoga offers a safe and compassionate space for individuals who have experienced trauma. It aims to rebuild a sense of safety in the body and restore connection with embodied presence.
Both systems view the individual as a whole being—not only muscles and structure, but also emotions, mind, and relationships. The ultimate goal is to support individuals in feeling more free, alive, and authentically themselves.
Psychologically Integrated Bodywork in Bodynamic Yoga
In Bodynamic Yoga, specific muscle groups are used to support particular psychological functions. This approach is rooted in ego functions commonly used in shock and trauma therapy.
Ego functions are essential psychological capacities we need in various areas of life. While not all individuals develop these capacities naturally, they can be cultivated later through embodied work. Bodynamic Yoga actively includes the body as a pathway toward psychological goals.
Life experiences shape how we respond to situations, creating an internal “coding” system. Some of these patterns support us, while others become limiting. Learning and activating ego functions allows these patterns to become more flexible and adaptive.
For example, if someone struggles with setting boundaries, this capacity can be rebuilt by working with both its physical and emotional dimensions—supporting greater balance and flexibility in both body and life.
